About

Built from renting rooms, not from property-management software.

Why Cohabi exists

Hi, I'm Irving Barajas, founder of Cohabi. When I was a kid, my family and I moved to the United States from Mexico.

Living as an undocumented immigrant came with many challenges. Finances were at the top of that list. Growing up, I often shared homes with roommates or family because of our tight budget.

I dropped out of college, stayed focused, and became a self-taught software engineer. Through work at tech startups I saved enough to buy a rundown house in Pomona, CA.

I rented the spare bedrooms so I would not be house poor. That worked well enough to buy four properties in three years.

Managing those houses was hard. The tools I found were outdated, complicated, and expensive. That is why Cohabi exists: a simple way to manage shared living.

What we believe

Renting spare bedrooms should not feel like a second job. We build for landlords who rent by the room, and for the people who live there.

Buying a home is hard. We think more people can own one if they can rent rooms without drowning in spreadsheets, group texts, and forgotten chores.
